About Me

Yorkshire born and bred

Born and raised in the East Riding of Yorkshire, I graduated with honours from Leeds Medical School in 2008, where I was one of the highest-performing medical students in my year. I went on to complete my specialist ophthalmology training in Yorkshire and was among the first of my trainee cohort to achieve the Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery (CertLRS).

To further develop my expertise, I undertook a year of advanced subspecialty training in cornea and refractive surgery at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, one of Europe’s largest teaching hospitals. This extensive training has given me a wealth and depth of experience in precision eye care and has shaped my approach to practice: combining the highest clinical standards with an uncompromising commitment to patient care.

I specialise in cataract surgery, including complex cases and advanced intraocular lens surgery. I have performed more than 7,500 cataract operations, with visual outcomes surpassing the national standards reported by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

I have been a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon since 2017 and have held consultant posts at NHS teaching hospitals in both Hull and York. During my NHS career, I was appointed Clinical Lead for cataract services and also managed an emergency eye care service. This breadth of experience has made me highly skilled in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of eye conditions, as well as in complex cataract surgery.

Teaching has always been an important part of my career. I have been a microsurgical skills trainer since 2018 and regularly teach on courses run by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, helping ophthalmologists at different stages of their careers to develop and refine their surgical skills.

Alongside my NHS work, I established my private practice at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital in 2018, where I have built a successful and continually growing practice based on clinical excellence, integrity and highly personalised patient care.

In 2023, I joined Optegra UK, initially providing high-quality, high-volume cataract surgery for NHS patients in York. My work with Optegra has since expanded, and I now also see private patients at Optegra Newcastle and Optegra Bowcliffe Hall.

Above all, I believe that excellent eye care is about more than achieving an excellent surgical result. I want every patient to feel listened to, well informed and confident in their treatment, and I take great pride in providing the standard of care I would want for a member of my own family.
